Maleficent & Sleeping Beauty inspired nail art

If you’re like me, the villains are always your favorite. Maleficent and Lady Tremaine have always been my particular favorites (what 6 year old likes a mean old woman with gray hair? me!), so when Pretty Jelly and I started on our awesome collaboration, I knew I wanted to do something inspired by villains. (Scroll all the way down for amazing nail art from my favorite bloggers!)

maleficent21

For the Maleficent-inspired I KNOW YOU set, Liz made a gorgeous blackened holographic green polish, and I made a nail stencil set with deep, pointy Vs, ravens, and enchanted fire.

For the adventurous, there’s also a multi-nail dragon stencil that I am 100% totally in love with.

Here’s the polish alone. It’s amazing in person, and the formula is perfect for use with the stencils, or alone. I’m always on the hunt for a good dark green that doesn’t scream “TREES” and this is it.

Order the I KNOW YOU set from my etsy store for $18
It’s limited edition, so don’t wait until it’s too late.

Pretty Jelly has also cooked up a gorgeous blue holo with pink shimmer. It’s really a beautiful color with the perfect amount of dreamy, princessy color shift.

The ONCE UPON A DREAM stencils are pure-hearted and sweet. There are animal friends (squirrels and little birds), fairy dust, briar rose flowers with heart-shaped petals, and crowns. The crowns make amazing half-moon manis! Look at her thumb!

There are also scalloped edge pieces for pretty French manicures or half-moon manicures. There’s also a dress stencil like Aurora’s dress from her big dance number with the prince.

I know with nail art, it’s always fun to see more than one take on the same idea, so take a look at these!

Matisse-inspired nail art

For the first day of spring, I wanted to do something inspired by nature and art. I saw a tile wall by Matisse at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art last year, and it really stuck with me – beautiful repeating leaves in striking colors.

Here’s my interpretation:

With it being spring now, the only word I can use is twitterpated – I am stupid in love with the way my nails look right now!

I want to share these leaves with you, so every order placed today through March 31st will receive a free bonus set of 10 Matisse-inspired stencils.

You can use the outside pieces, and the inside pieces to stencil your nails. For the blue accent nail on my right hand (one picture up), I cut a stencil in half to make a white frame for the green leaf.

Head over to the Sticky Nails shop to order your favorite nail stencil set, and get this Matisse-inspired bonus set for free!

Spider web nail stencils

If you’re an every-day-is-Halloween kind of person (like me!) you’ll have a lot of reasons to wear spider webs on your nails, even when it’s not October.

Arden from Black Cat Nails did this amazing black and silver spider web nail art, with spider webs at the edges of her nails, rather than centered, and a cute little “AH!” in textured polish. I copycatted her striking colors for my own spooky manicure.

I lovelove that Arden put a red mark on the spider’s back to make it a Black Widow, so for my own nails, I used a dotting tool to make the tell-tale red mark. My initial idea was to use a red heart sequin, but when I polished over it, the clear coat smeared all the red off. Because I put a coat of Seche Vite on between each layer, I was able to clean up the smear more easily. Seche Vite is Sticky Nails’ BFF.

Colors used: Sonia Kashuk – Starry Night, OPI – Haven’t the Foggiest, and ORLY – Star Spangled

The spider web stencils are a little bit tricky because you have to remove all those little inset pieces before you can use them. I recommend that you get all your stencils ready before you start spookifying your nails so that you don’t smudge or bump a precious web. Additionally, I always spend a little extra time with these stencils to make sure that every little bit of the stencil is pressed firm against my nail. Sometimes I use cuticle nippers to cut the stencil and wrap it around the end of my nail if it’s not sticking right. I have a lot of curvature in my nails to that happens a lot. See what I mean here:

Two types of bat stencils are included on the stencil sheet. Here’s an example of the “double feature” bats:

The polish is so reflective that it’s reflecting my skin tone! I love Haven’t the Foggiest.
